The awards just keep on coming for the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

The Communications and Stakeholder Relations team for Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority has won a Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) Award of Excellence for the project’s Community Benefits Plan.

The plan received the CPRS Gold Award for the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Campaign. The category celebrates community programs that have enabled an organization to build and maintain positive and sustainable relationships with key individuals, groups, and organizations within its communities.

The Community Benefits Plan for the Gordie Howe International Bridge reflects opportunities that can enhance economic, social and environmental conditions in the host communities of Windsor, Ontario and Delray, Michigan. It is comprised of two components – the Workforce Development and Participation Strategy and the Neighbourhood Infrastructure Strategy.

The components focus on supporting local businesses and the workforce while collaborating with stakeholders to develop an investment strategy for identified priorities in each host community.

The Community Benefits Plan has received numerous industry-related awards. It has also been highlighted in several case studies around the world and used as a model for other infrastructure projects for its positive impact on host communities.

The Gordie Howe International Bridge is the largest infrastructure project on the Canada – US border and will be an impressive and inspiring new gateway symbol for both countries. The project involves not only the construction of what will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America but two of the largest Ports of Entry for a land border crossing and a connection to I-75 in Michigan. The bridge is expected to be in service by the end of 2024.
