Gordie Howe International Bridge Project Seeking Feedback On Malden Park Observation Area Accessibility Through Online Survey

The Gordie Howe International Bridge Community Benefits Plan includes funding to build a safe observation area at Malden Park where residents and visitors can observe the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge. To minimize barriers for people with disabilities, the Gordie Howe International Bridge project team is seeking feedback on the design of the Malden Park Observation Area so it can be enjoyed by all through an online survey.

Construction Update: Spring 2022

At the Canadian POE, the final sand surcharge deposits are taking shape at the north and east ends of the construction site. Throughout 2022, underground utility installations are ongoing across multiple areas of the 53 hectares/130 acre site. Grading and paving is expected to begin later this year. Nine of 12 POE facilities are currently under construction. Some are in early construction with excavation and foundation work underway while others are receiving roofing, building facade and interior fit-out (floors, ceilings and furnishings) installations. The project team expects to begin construction on the remaining three facilities within the coming months.

2022 Community Organization Investment: Funded Initiatives

The $20 million Neighbourhood Infrastructure Strategy of the Community Benefits Plan includes the Community Organization Investment, an annual commitment to provide a $100,000 (CDN) investment allowance for community organizations located in or serving Sandwich/west Windsor or Delray/Southwest Detroit (the host communities) between 2020 and 2024. Funds are used to support events, programming and/or infrastructure improvements that benefit the host communities and align with one of the community investment priorities, including: community partnerships, community safety and connections, economic benefits, and/or aesthetics and landscaping.
