There was lots of laughter and horns blaring as the public interacted with machines of all shapes and sizes at Windsor’s 2019 Meet-A-Machine event.

On June 22, 2019, the city of Windsor’s WFCU Centre held their annual Meet-A-Machine event hosted by the City of Windsor Children’s Services. This event gave people of all sorts the exciting experience of being up close to construction equipment, emergency vehicles, military trucks, buses and many more machines.

“Meet-A-Machine was a fun event and a great way to engage with the Windsor community about the Gordie Howe International Bridge. We received lots of positive feedback and people were excited about the project.” Said Colleen Kenney, Communications and Stakeholder Relations, WDBA

The people were particularly excited to learn about some of the machines being used to construct the Gordie Howe International Bridge. WDBA and BNA Communications staff handed out children’s construction hats and frisbees to children to give them the chance to feel like a construction worker for the day.

Gordie Howe International Bridge workers recognized for lifesaving actions

In November 2023, two Gordie Howe International Bridge workers rescued four members of the public from a capsized boat in the frigid waters of the Detroit River. Now, their life-saving efforts are being recognized with Fluor’s Silver Medallion of Safety.
