Statement by the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi on the Preferred Proponent choice for the Gordie Howe International Bridge project

July 5, 2018         Ottawa, Ontario       Infrastructure Canada

“The Government of Canada is making investments that will help create good middle-class jobs, promote trade and productivity, and grow the economy. The Gordie Howe International Bridge will support economic growth by improving connections between Canada and the U.S., enabling the continuous flow of people and goods through a safe, secure and efficient Windsor-Detroit trade corridor.

“Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority has worked very hard over the last 4 years with their Canadian and American partners to make today possible. Beyond any doubt, this project is moving forward with a world- class team now chosen to deliver it, to the benefit of Canada-U.S. trade and the residents of Windsor and Detroit who have for so long wanted to see this project become a reality.

“The project brings opportunities in the form of jobs and contracts for local workers, service providers, and material manufacturers and distributors on both sides of the border during the construction and operation of the new bridge.

“The Government of Canada is committed to the successful completion of the Gordie Howe International Bridge. It is an example of the strategic infrastructure investments being made across Canada to help grow the economy, create good middle-class jobs and enhance productivity.”
