The Gordie Howe International Bridge project is located within a Control Zone Airspace in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. As such, drone flights, also known as remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), over the project must comply with flights rules, which include:

  1. Unauthorized drone operations are not permitted within a Control Zone Airspace, which includes areas within the project site.
  2. Drones must be registered with Transport Canada.
  3. The operator must hold an advanced operations pilot certificate.
  4. The operator must receive written authorization from NAV CANADA.
  5. Rules are enforced by Transport Canada and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).  Non-compliance can result in serious penalties of fines up to $25,000 and jail time.
