Community Benefits Plan Allocates $2.3 Million in New Investments

With implementation of the Gordie Howe International Bridge Community Benefits Plan at the midway point of its five-year term, the project team has identified new investment opportunities worth $2.3 million. Eleven new projects are being added to the Plan, along with expanded funding to six existing initiatives, all of which bring further benefits to the local communities.

Cable installation for Gordie Howe International Bridge now underway

The Gordie Howe International Bridge project team is excited to start a new stage in bridge construction. The installation of the stay cables that will connect the towers to the bridge and road deck is now underway, with the first two of 216 stay cables installed on the US side of the bridge over the week of January 16, 2023. 

Government of Canada launches selection process for CEO of Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority

Today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, announced that the selection process is underway for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA).

Statement by the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, on the resignation of the Chief Executive Officer of Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority

“I have accepted Bryce Phillips’ resignation from the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Windsor- Detroit Bridge Authority, effective January 6, 2023. I would like to thank Mr. Phillips for his dedication and commitment to WDBA over the past four years, and I wish him continued success in his future endeavours.”

Government of Canada announces appointments to Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority’s Board of Directors

Today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, announced the appointment of Helga Reidel and Jeff Allsop to the Board of Directors of Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA), the Crown corporation responsible for the delivery of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.

“As a Canadian Crown corporation governed by a Board of Directors, Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) is delighted to welcome new board members Jeff Allsop and Helga Reidel. I look forward to working together to advance the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.

Increase in Community Organization Funding to Further Support Windsor and Detroit Communities

Additional funding to a popular Community Benefits Plan initiative will result in further support for the communities adjacent to the Gordie Howe International Bridge project. The Community Organization Investment provides funding to support programming, events and small infrastructure improvements in the areas of Sandwich/west Windsor and Delray/Southwest Detroit. This year, the annual funding envelope has increased from a total of $100,000 (CDN) to a total of $200,000 (CDN). Each community will receive $100,000 in funding, up from the previous amounts of $50,000.

Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority welcomes the report of the Auditor General of Canada

Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) welcomes the Special Examination Report from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada, which covers the period from February 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021.

Statement by Bryce Phillips, Chief Executive Officer - Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority

“Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) is honoured to welcome Tim Smith to the Board of Directors. Mr. Smith brings over 35 years of experience and expertise in construction to the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.  The Board plays an important role for the project and our organization. The duties and responsibilities of the board are to set corporate objectives and direction, ensure good governance, monitor financial performance, approve budgets and financial statements, approve policies and by-laws, as well as ensure that risks are identified and managed.
