Michigan Interchange I-75 Closures

EMERGENCY DETOUR ALERT: Bridging North America has implemented a new detour on Woodmere Street in response to the emergency closure of the Fort Street and Dearborn Street intersection

  • Northbound motorists heading toward Springwells Street northbound will be detoured to Fort Street eastbound/Melville Street eastbound, south on Green Street southbound, west on Jefferson Avenue westbound, north on Dearborn Street northbound, north on Woodmere Street, east on Vernor Highway eastbound, and then Springwells Street.

I-75 Northbound - NEW

  • The three left lanes of northbound I-75 will be closed between south of Springwells Street to north of Waterman Street from January 14 at 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on January 17, 2022.
  • The three left lanes of northbound I-75 will be closed between south of Springwells Street to north of Waterman Street, during the night between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning from January 17 to January 19, 2022. The closure will be daily and as needed.
  • The left lane is closed on northbound I-75 between Harbaugh and Clark Streets until January 31, 2022.
  • The Livernois exit-ramp at Northbound I-75 will close over a long-term period, starting at 7 a.m. on June 15, 2021.

I-75 Southbound - NEW

  • The three left lanes of southbound I-75 will be closed between south of Waterman Street and north of Junction Street from January 14 at 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on January 17, 2022.
  • The three left lanes of southbound I-75 will be closed between south of Waterman Street and north of Junction Street, during the night between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning from January 17 to January 19, 2022. The closure will be daily and as needed.
  • The left lane of southbound I-75 is closed between Bagley Avenue and Junction Street until January 31, 2022.
  • The left lane of southbound I-75 is closed between Springwells Street and McKinstry Street until January 31, 2022.

I-75 Service Drive - NEW

  • Northbound I-75 Service Drive is closed from Waterman Street to Dragoon Street until August 1, 2022.
  • Southbound I-75 Service Drive is closed from Waterman Street to Dragoon Street until August 1, 2022.
  • I-75 Service Drive in both directions is closed between Clark Street and Dragoon Street until June 15, 2022. Junction Street will remain open to through traffic.
  • Mobile closures will be extended on northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives between Clark Street and Scotten Street and also Springwells Street to Central Street until April 29, 2022, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. as needed. Only one lane will close. Closures will be less than 30 minutes in duration during these timeframes for mobilization and demobilization of equipment activities.
  • Northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drive will close over a long-term period between Green Street and Waterman Street. Combined with the pre-existing Service Drive closures in the area, will make the entire northbound and southbound Service Drive closed from Springwells Street to Clark Street.

The following road closures are in place;

  • Waterman Street between northbound and southbound I-75 Service Drives
  • Dragoon Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive
  • Green Street between Fort Street and the southbound I-75 Service Drive.

Campbell Street - NEW

  • Campbell Street will close over a long-term period between W. Jefferson Avenue and Fort Street from January 24 until May 9, 2022.
  • The right lane of eastbound Fort Street will close between Cavalry Street and Junction Avenue from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily as needed.
  • The parking lane of westbound W. Jefferson Avenue will close between Cavalry Street and Junction Avenue from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily as needed.
  • The parking lane of Campbell Street southbound will close daily between Jefferson Avenue and Driggs Street, until January 22, 2022, as needed.
  • The parking lane of Campbell Street northbound will close daily between Driggs Street and north of the railroad tracks, until January 22, 2022, as needed.

Long Term I-75 Closures

As construction of the Michigan Interchange and the US Port of Entry (POE) continues, Bridging North America will extend the temporary closures along Livernois Avenue. Additionally, Cavalry Street and Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period. As a reminder, in July 2020, several streets closed over a long-term period including sections of Dragoon Street, Driggs Street, Harvey Street, Reeder Street and Hussar Street.

Clark Street

  • The Clark Street ramps to north and southbound I-75 is closed beginning March 30, 2021.

Cavalry Street

  • Cavalry Street will remain closed over a long-term period between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Military Street

  • Military Street will remain closed over a long-term period between the northbound I-75 Service Drive and Fort Street.

Livernois Avenue

  • Livernois Avenue will remain closed between Fort Street and Norfolk Southern Railroad Tracks (open for local traffic only) until June 10, 2022.
  • The Livernois Avenue ramps to north and southbound I-75 remain closed.
  • The Livernois Avenue entrance-ramp at southbound I-75 remains closed.

Post Street

  • Post Street remains closed over a long-term period between CSX Railroad and the Delray Mechanical entrance.

Springwells Court

  • Springwells Court northbound and southbound is closed west of the Lafarge entrance to east of the Springwells Court detour from May 15, 2021 until November 23, 2024.

Construction Activities

US Port of Entry (POE)

  • Crews continue work on steel fabrication and erection as well as wall construction on the commercial warehouse.
  • Surcharge removal and installation as well as embankment work continue at the bridge approach area.
  • Foundation construction work continues for the main building
  • Crews continue lining activities on existing combined sewer lines.
  • Crews continue to haul contaminated materials off-site.

US Bridge site

  • Concrete, rebar and formwork continue to lift north and south towers. The tower legs currently stand at 128 metres/419 feet in height.
  • Concrete, rebar and formwork continue to lift north and south piers.
  • Work continues on the corbel falsework and the stay cable warehouse roof erection.

Michigan Interchange

  • Crews continue open cut excavation for the Calvary siphon.
  • Formwork and rebar activities continue for the junction chambers and elbows for the north and southbound Campbell siphons
  • Crews begin excavation for the Green Street overpass bridge abutment.
  • Work continues on the concrete piles for I-75 ramps.
  • Watermain installation continues along the southbound Service Drive.
  • Material removal continues between Green and Waterman Streets.
