The towers of the Gordie Howe International Bridge have been under construction since 2019. Each bridge tower is an inverted “Y shape and made of cast-in-place reinforced concrete.
Once in service, the Gordie Howe International Bridge and the two Ports of Entry will be open to travellers 24 hours a day, every day of the year in all kinds of weather.
As part of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project, just over three kilometres of Sandwich
Street will be reconstructed. Sandwich Street reconstruction will stretch from south of the
Rosedale Avenue roundabout past Ojibway Parkway to McKee Avenue.

The Community Organization Investment initiative will provide funding of $50,000 (CDN) in Canada and the US to community organizations serving Sandwich/west Windsor or Delray/Southwest Detroit residents.
Construction of the POE buildings is now underway with
foundation work and steel building frames have begun to form.
Decking, roofing and building façade work is anticipated to follow
in the coming months.
