Academic Tolling Research Completed through Community Benefits Partnership

A University of Windsor engineering student is one step closer to graduation after completing her thesis on advanced tolling systems related to the Gordie Howe International Bridge project. The research was supported by the Annual Research Partnership, an initiative of the project’s Community Benefits Plan.

“Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) is honoured to welcome Tim Smith to the Board of Directors. Mr. Smith brings over 35 years of experience and expertise in construction to the Gordie Howe International Bridge project.  The Board plays an important role for the project and our organization. The duties and responsibilities of the board are to set corporate objectives and direction, ensure good governance, monitor financial performance, approve budgets and financial statements, approve policies and by-laws, as well as ensure that risks are identified and managed.

Today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, announced the re-appointment of Catherine Lavoie as Chair of the Board of Directors of Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI), and the appointment of Tim Smith to the Board of Directors of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA).

Help Us Invest in New Community Benefits Initiatives - 2022 Community Benefits Proposals

The Gordie Howe International Bridge project team is requesting public feedback on initiatives under consideration for Community Benefits funding in 2022. All initiatives under consideration support the Southwest Detroit/west Windsor communities, align with the priorities identified through Community Benefits Plan consultation in 2015-2018 and include exciting events, new programming and community infrastructure. The proposals stem from ideas that were not included in the original Community Benefits Plan or those that have been brought forward to the project team since the Plan’s release in 2019. To maintain confidentiality, the names of the potential delivery partners are not being released at this time. 

Connecting the Gordie Howe International Bridge to the largest ports on the Canada-US Land Border

While work continues on the bridge towers and the buildings at the Canadian and US Ports of Entry, crews are also busy building up the back span, side span and approach span piers that will help connect the Gordie Howe International Bridge to what will be the largest ports of entry on the Canada-US border.

Fact sheets

Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA), responsible for the delivery of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan, is seeking community feedback on service offerings and facilities through an accessibility lens via an online survey. Feedback from the survey will be used to support further development and improvements to WDBA’s Accessibility Plan.
